“They were not enthusiastic.”

NIMBYism 101

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, you cannot solve the affordable housing crisis without more affordable housing. Now, to make something affordable, the cost base needs to be as low as possible. Enter manufactured housing. Manufactured housing is the lowest cost per unit option and therefore the most affordable. Sounds like we have a solution, right? Don’t tell that to Glynn County Mainland Planning Commission in Georgia. The reference article is here and let me summarize how the idea of a new mobile home park in the area went - “They were not enthusiastic.”

I get it, the chances of a mobile home park deteriorating into an eyesore are greater than a single-family home development. What’s interesting is that the proposal was for 110 units on the tract. The homes would be new, three-bedroom, two-bath manufactured homes, renting for $1,500 a month. Skid Row this is not. Regardless, everyone hated the idea of a new mobile home park and needless to say it’s not getting built.

Enjoy!
