Two Sides to Every Story
And Sometimes We Forget That
There’s been an ongoing story regarding Grand Canyon University in Phoenix displacing mobile home park residents (article here). On the surface, it looks bad - a Chrisitan University kicking out poor residents from their homes. Well, Grand Canyon must have had enough of the bad PR, as they finally provided their side of the story in a local Opinion piece (article here). There’s a lot to unpack in the rebuttal and it’s difficult to feel sorry for the residents after hearing Grand Canyon University’s case. While difficult to pinpoint the most compelling argument for Grand Canyon, I would have to point to this:
“Although we tried to meet with each tenant to address their specific needs, the tenants asked for a third party. So GCU funded a third-party housing expert, Trellis, to work with each family individually. Trellis is experienced at finding public and private low-income funding sources and is helping every Periwinkle family that has been willing to meet find alternate housing.
Yet, roughly a third of the Periwinkle tenants have declined to meet with Trellis and are refusing any help.”
Two sides to every story indeed.
Enjoy!
